What are noodles?

In Japan there are three basic types of noodles: Udon, Ramen and Soba.

Noodles are the perfect health-conscious fast food to enjoy a balanced, healthy and nutritious diet. They are a source of carbohydrates that the body easily burns up to provide energy.

For centuries, the Japanese have enjoyed excellent health, avoiding many of the diseases associated with the Western diet. At Udon we believe that by adopting some of the Eastern eating habits, we will provide great benefits to our health. Noodles are an essential feature of this diet and have formed part of the staple diet in Japan for over a thousand years.

Their popularity has now crossed borders, with noodles today being more and more appreciated all over the world.


History

It is believed that noodles originated from China as early as 5000 BC, then spread to other Asian countries. In recent years, noodles have also become very popular outside Asia and this popularity is likely to increase.

During the 6th century and amidst numerous cultural exchanges, China shared the art of noodle making with Japan. As from that moment noodles became part of everyday life. During centuries, Japanese people have enjoyed of good health getting rid of illnesses associated to the western diet. In Udon we believe that adopting some of the oriental diet habits our health will obtain some of their benefits.

Noodles are an essential component of this diet and they have been part of the basic diet in Japan for over 1000 years, they have high carbohydrate content, they are low in salt and have no fat. Nowadays noodles are much more than fast food, offering variety, versatility and high-quality nutrition.
